Purpose & Structure


Charitable Purpose

We educate and train people, particularly youth and unemployed in the East Cape area with basic skills in farming and in environmental practices. We organize work and educational opportunities and create job structures and educational institutions suited to the particular needs of the persons involved in the scheme. We promote and encourage all aspects of our Maori culture that is essential to the identity of our people. We also encourage the use of the cultural resources of our community.

Entity Structure

We are a Charitable Trust incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 on 20th October 2005. The Trust Deed states that the Board will comprise of no less than three (3) Trustees and no more than ten (10) Trustees. Currently there are three (3) trustees, who are the first Board of Te Wairoa Charitable Trust. These Trustees are: Leonard Walker, Gilbert Walker and Beverley Smith. We are based in Te Araroa on the East Cape of the North Island.
