Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The South Westland Wilderness Trail Trust exists to drive the creation of a cycle and walking trail from Ross to Fox Glacier, offering a safe alternative to the dangers of State Highway 6. It will benefit the economies of the South Westland communities and will enable visitors and educational groups to experience the magnificent forests, coastline and mountain vistas currently closed to all but the hardiest trampers.

Entity Structure

The Trust is incorporated with the New Zealand Companies Office. It meets monthly in Franz Josef, usually in the Office of the Department of Conservation. The Trust consists of a minimum of 7 members, with one appointee each from Makaawhio and the Department of Conservation
