Charitable Purpose
As a member of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa NZ, we seek: to make known the teachings of Jesus Christ; to encourage our mainly elderly congregation, while facing the challenges of daily living; to support them as best we can, to care for one another and to reach out to others. To this end we provide a safe space for prayer, worship and fellowship, not only for our own people but also weekly for the Tuvalu Christian Church of Whangarei. We also provide space for community groups needing a place to meet and run a weekly Mainly Music programme for preschoolers. To help overseas ministries with financial support is always an annual goal.

Entity Structure
At present St James is 'in vacancy' ie we have no minister. However oversight is offered by our interim moderator from St Andrews Church, Whangarei. We are also served within St James by a Parish Council. This is made up of, one Parish Clerk, one Treasurer and eight other members, all volunteers. St James Onerahi belongs to the Northern Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa NZ. Our governing rule is the Presbyterian Book of Order.
