Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Healthy Futures is a Wellington-based Charitable Trust concerned with the increase of obesity-related health problems seen in children, in particular type 2 diabetes. Our vision is for all New Zealand children to live in an environment that enables and supports healthy eating and physical activity. Healthy Futures works to improve the health and wellbeing of New Zealand children by: • Raising awareness of our obesogenic food environment and advocating for changes in this that will make it easier for everyone to make healthy choices. • Providing education about type 2 diabetes and how this can be prevented. • Empowering individuals and whanau with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices • Providing healthy lifestyle and nutrition education to schools, workplaces, sports clubs and other community organisations. • Providing resources to support healthy eating and physical activity.

Healthy Futures has a Board comprised of 5 Trustees; an Executive Officer; a Treasurer. The team includes 2 diabetes nurse educators, 1 dietitian, 1 Pacific health advisor, and 2 Programme Managers responsible for managing our Garden to Table Schools and Healthy Steps programmes.
