Charitable Purpose

Haapaitia te ara tika puumau ai te rangatiratanga moo ngaa uri whakatipu - Foster the pathway of knowledge to strength, independence and growth for future generations. This whakataukii epitomises the support of the whaanau for their tamariki who seek education that supports their chosen lifestyle, culture and language. The main goal of Te Waka Hau-A-Uru Trust is to: support whaanau who wish their tamariki to be educated in a Kura Kaupapa Maaori environment by providing transport services to those who live in Waitara, Bellblock and the outer suburbs of New Plymouth City.

Entity Structure

Children are represented by Trustees on a basis of one caregiver or parent per whaanau, therefore, the number of trustees should equal the number of whaanau who utilise the bus service at any given time. Current Officers on the Trustees are: Kaihautuu (Chairperson) Whaene Marlene Proctor, Poutuhituhi (Secretary) Whaene Mako Jones, Pouwhakarite Puutea (Finance) Whaene Min O'Carroll. All Trustee members including the Chair, Secretary and Finance are unpaid volunteers.
