Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The Board's role is to ensure the implementation of the HPCAA and fulfil the principal purpose as set out in Section 3 and the functions as set out in Section 118 of the HPCAA. The Board has made a commitment to ensure that issues of diversity and equality are valued, upheld and promoted, and underpin all aspects of the Board's work and therefore to being familiar with, and operating according to the principles of natural justice and administrative law: Te Tiriti o Waitangi; Pae Ora Act 2022; Health and Disability Commissioner Act 1994 - Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights; Health and Disability Services Act 1993; Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997; Health and Safety Work Act 2016; Privacy Act 1993 - Health Information Privacy Code 1994; Human Rights Act 1993. The Board has been set up to protect the health and safely of members of the public by providing for mechanisms to ensure that health practitioners are competent and fit to practise their professions.
