Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The WRFD is responsible for ensuring the safety of lives, property and forests in rural Wairarapa by a number of legislative Acts and Local Body Bylaws, and through the implementation of the national Fire Service strategy of 4 R's (Readiness, Reduction, Response and Recovery) in relation to fire and fire activity.

Entity Structure

The WRFD is comprised of four paid employees, a governing board of 8, 4 are representatives appointed by the shareholders (being the three Territorial Authorities and DoC), 1 from NZFS, 2 independent directors,and 1 representative from Forest Owners. The 128 volunteers are spread throughout the Wairarapa and are part of one of the eight VRFF's.
