Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The purpose of the Classic Fighters Airshow Charitable Trust is to raise funds for the development and advancement of the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre which is developed and run by the New Zealand Aviation Museum Trust Inc. This Centre is acknowledged internationally as being in the top echelon of Aviation-centred museums world- wide. The Airshow Trust raises funds by holding a major airshow every "odd' Easter ( alternating with Warbirds over Wanaka). Because running such an airshow carries a very real commercial risk, the Trust is an entirely stand-alone Charitable Trust so that the risk profile does not impinge on the day-to-day running of the Museum Trust. Our trust deed clearly sets this out.

Entity Structure

The Trust is run on a voluntary basis and is administered by a Board of five (currently) Trustees who are charged with the governance of the trust, but are also heavily involved in the creation and administration of the biennial Airshow. An Airshow Committee run by the Airshow Organiser and comprising up to 20+ members, each of whom is responsible for a particular area of the Air show operation. Planning for each air show is on an 18-20 month cycle, allowing for a break after each show.
