Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

1. To promote and protect the interests of the ethnic groups which make Lower Hutt a multi-ethnic city and society. 2. To raise awareness among the ethnic groups of the special status of Māori as Tangata Whenua and their rights under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. 3. To provide Government and local Government agencies with information about ethnic groups and to help these agencies to ensure that their services respond to the ethnic diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand society. 4. To provide a forum for ethnic groups to share experiences and wisdom on ethnic affairs. 5. To enable ethnic groups to give each other mutual support and strength to deal with issues which affect them all. 6. To protect ethnic groups against racist behaviour. 7. To protect the democratic rights of ethnic groups to participate in decisions which affect them. 8. To enable ethnic groups to openly express their commitment to Aotearoa New Zealand while at the same time protecting and sharing their ethnic heritage and identity.
