n practical terms, charitable status provides income tax exemption which we do not require as our annual income is below the $1,000 threshold. Last financial year our income was $250, the year before it was $290. It also gives us donee status, ie we can give receipts to people who give us donations of more than $5 so that they can claim tax credits. We received five eligible donations last financial year and the same number the previous year. The reporting is an annual headache. It requires a lot of time and effort for a small charity like ours. We can continue what we are doing without being registered.
