Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Whānau Tupu Ngātahi - Families Growing Together. Playcentre is for Tamariki/Children. Urenui Playcentre is an Early Childhood Education Service which provides a rich learning environment for children aged 0-6. Children attend sessions with their parents or caregivers, who form a parent co-operative to provide quality educational experiences for the children and day to day management of the Playcentre. Playcentre is for whānau/families. The parent co-operative provides support and friendship for all families involved. Parents receive free education through the Playcentre adult education programme. Playcentre is for Communities. The skills learnt by parents attending Playcentre are transferrable to the home environment, other community organisations and the workplace. The friendships made and skills learnt last a life time and strengthen and enrich communities. Playcentres nationwide have a commitment to biculturalism and honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Entity Structure

Parents and caregivers or other whānau members form the parent co-operative at Urenui Playcentre. The parent co-operative holds monthly meetings to pass monthly financial payments, receive reports from office holders, review policies and procedure, conduct self-review and discuss general business. At the Annual General Meeting all members of the parent co-operative are encouraged to take on a position. All the members are volunteers, committed to providing the best education for the tamariki
