Purpose & Structure
Charitable Purpose
The Canterbury Film Society (CFS) aims to provide a welcoming space for diverse peoples and cultural groups within Ōtautahi Christchurch by screening low-cost viewing opportunities. It wishes to contribute positively and generously to the emergent art and cultural life of the city’s centre, to engage people's imagination and creativity, to enhance and broaden understanding of communities both within Aotearoa and also in cultures very different to our own, and to foster opportunities for people of all ages to make meaningful connections and share ideas. We are motivated to support New Zealand directors and films which showcase the emergent talents of indigenous filmmakers within a bicultural framework. We seek to achieve this through the range of film offered and by collaborating with other groups whose purposes flow with our own and with whom we can work with aroha and respect.
