Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The purpose of the Marae is to provide facilities for beneficiaries to hold hui ora me hui mate. The Marae is used as a learning place for our whanau, allowing the opportunity for Kaumatua and pakeke to pass their knowledge on to future generations. Our marae is the place where we foster and practice the principles and teachings of Haahi Ratana. Our Marae is the place where we foster and practice the tikanga of our Tipuna Makoro and embrace our whakapapa as Ngati Makoro. Our doors are always open for all who need a place to rest and to gather sustenance and nourishment.

Whetu Marama Marae is a marae on Māori Reservation Land. The Māori Reservation Regulations 1994 require that where a reservation is a marae the trustees of the reservation shall draw up, in agreement with the beneficiaries of the marae, a charter for the reservation. A copy of the Whetu Marama Marae charter is published below. This charter is not a part of the formal rules of the marae as required under s17(1)(c) of the Charities Act 2005.
