Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

To operate the Paddle steamer Waimarie and the Whanganui Riverboat Museum. To assist in preserving the Waimarie and Whanganui River Lore and to be a major attraction to visitors to Whanganui. The Trust therefore provides skilled employment, training, delivers education to school children and the wider public and enhances the economic wellbeing of Whanganui. The Waimarie Operating Trust ceased physical operations in June 2025. The Trusts property was transferred to the Whanganui Riverboat Restoration & Navigation Trust by way of distribution and the Trust is in the process of being dissolved. The operations of the Paddle Steamer Waimarie have been taken over by the newly formed Waimarie Whanganui Enterprises Ltd.
