Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

Dementia Canterbury works to make life better for all people affected by dementia. It does this by; • providing support, advice and education for people with dementia and their family/whanau, friends and caregivers. • education for the general public, helping professions and medical professionals of the problems associated with stigma. • stimulating research [including social] to improve the management of all dementias in NZ. • raising community and government awareness and encouraging action by highlighting the needs of people with dementia, their whanau, and caregivers.

Entity Structure

Current trust board has 8 members with two of these being executive positions, Chairperson, and Treasurer. The board meets on average 8 to 10 times per year with subcommittee meetings for any specific projects as required. There are also three honorary positions to support the organisation, Patron, Medical Adviser, and Legal Adviser. There are currently 15 staff employed at an operational level. We employ a Manager, Office administrator/Receptionist, Finance/Fundraising Administrator.
