Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

i. To manage the land and buildings known as Te Moata for the Charitable Purposes; ii. To establish and maintain at the Te Moata property an educational and retreat centre for the study and practice of Insight Meditation and other educational, health and spiritual practices, thereby advancing education and learning; iii. To bring to New Zealand international insight meditation teachers of the highest calibre; iv. To provide facilities where individuals and groups may learn meditation which is designed to enhance the development of the deepest levels of insight through silent and structured practice; v. To provide for the maintenance, future development and financial management of these facilities in perpetuity; vi. To provide for the care and regeneration of the native bush with the Te Moata property and observe the protection conditions of the QEII National Trust Covenant , and to assist with the development, awareness and appreciation of environmental issues.

Entity Structure

The Trust has a Board of Trustees with no less than three and no more than seven Trustees. For this financial year, the Board has consisted of five or six Trustees. Meetings are through a web based interface with at least one face to face meeting annually. The Board of Trustees contracts live in Managers, who liaise with Trustees regularly. The Board also employs additional persons from time to time to supplement the many hours of voluntary help.

Annual Returns are due within 6 months of a charity’s balance date (financial year-end), or a longer period if an extension has been granted.

Exemptions

This charity has been granted an exemption from filing an annual return by 30 September 2008 under Section 43 of the Charities Act 2005. The first annual return is due by 30 September 2009.
