Purpose & Structure


Charitable Purpose

The Society promotes and facilitates informed, supportive and cohesive relationships, between families and whanau with a deaf child, within the Auckland region. It believes that when families and whanau are well supported and connected, as part of a peer network, deaf children can realise their full potential as active participants, and valued members within their respective communities. The society champions the right for deaf children to realise their full potential, by developing a positive, healthy and secure self identity. It does this by providing, and being involved in activities which promote the social, educational and recreational needs of deaf children living in Auckland.

Entity Structure

APODC affairs are governed and managed by an elected Managing Committee, consisting of between 5 and 10 Committee Members, including the Officers. Full membership of the Society is open to any family/whanau with a deaf child residing in the Auckland region, and Associate membership is open to those who are interested in promoting the well-being of deaf children. The Coordinator is the sole employee, whose job it is to manage communications, fundraising, and event planning and delivery.

Annual Returns


Annual Returns are due within 6 months of a charity’s balance date (financial year-end), or a longer period if an extension has been granted.

Exemptions

This charity has been granted an exemption from filing an annual return by 30 June 2008 under Section 43 of the Charities Act 2005. The first annual return is due by 30 June 2009.
