Purpose & Structure

Charitable Purpose

The Friends of Hutt City Libraries is an association that aims to foster interest in books and libraries and to support the endeavours of the Libraries' staff. The society is established to: - Assist in the promotion of public opinion which values the Hutt City Libraries, by seeking positive publicity for library development and for Hutt City Council decisions which are seen as contributing to the public value of the libraries. - Support library and library-based activities at or beyond the periphery of Hutt City Council support - Campaign on appropriate occasions for the continuation and extension of library services, particularly in suburban areas. - Provides a means by which the voice of library users can, on occasion, be heard. - Make submissions on Hutt City Council planning documents which refer to the libraries.

Entity Structure

The committee shall comprise of at least six, and not more than eight, member of the Friends, appointed by the annual meeting to exercise the powers and pursue the aims of the Friends. The committee appoints the officers of Friends, namely the Chairperson, the Treasurer and the Secretary. Co-ordination of Friends activities with those of the Hutt City Libraries is maintained by means of regular meetings with the Libraries Manager or their deputy.
